The 2009 Queensland Badminton Championships will be held at the Calamvale Community College, Hamish St, Calamvale on the 18th & 19th of July 2009. The tournament will be held at the Calamvale Community Sports Centre, Hamish Street, Calamvale. Entries close Wednesday 8th July 2009. More information about the tournament can be found on the entry form or by emailing info@brisbanebadminton.org. The first 50 players that enter online (playing at least 3 events each) and pay their entry fees into the Brisbane Badminton Association bank account or send in a cheque will go into the draw for $50 of trading gear. In order to play in this tournament you must be a current member of the Qld Badminton Association member or other State Association. QBA Development Officer, Ulf Lundquist, will be running a Level 1 Badminton Coaching Course on the Gold Coast on Sunday the 26th of July, 2009. The course will take place at Pacific Pines State High School form 9am until 5pm. The level 1 Course is aimed at teachers & coaches who wish to, are currently working with, beginner junior level players. Cost to participate in the course is $110 for current QBA Members and $155 Non QBA Members. Cost includes four year coaching accreditation from Badminton Australia (provided all requirements have been satisfactorily completed) and coaching manual. | Regrades from the City of Brisbane Championships

A number of re-grades were completed at the recent 2009 City of Brisbane Championships. The regrades were based on tournament performances throughout 2009. The re-grades are effective immediately. | Queensland Girls take Australasian Doubles Title

Wendy Chen and Christina Chan took out the Girls Doubles Title at the recent Australasian Under 17 Badminton Championships held in Ballarat, Victoria from April 1019. The girls defeated the number 1 seeds from New Zealand in the final to take the title. Wendy was also a semi-finalist in the girls singles event. The girls were also members of the Queensland Under 17 team that participated in the Teams Event, the June Bevan Trophy. Queensland placed 14th out of 17 teams. Well done to all those in the QLD Under 17 team!

The Queensland Badminton Association is raising funds by selling the 2009/2010 Entertainment Book. Selling for $60, a portion of the proceeds from the sale of the Entertainment Books will help fund Queensland Junior Teams attend the National Championships. Entertainment Books contain hundreds of 25-50% off and two-for -one offers from popular restaurants, cinemas, hotel accommodation, the arts, and sporting events. there truly is osmething for everyone, with high value offers from Avis, Warner Bros Movieworld, Crown Towers, Hamilton Island, and many more. The QBA has received some requests for coaches to deliver badminton in the Active After School Communities Program: Vienna Woods State School OSHC, 12 Heffernan Road, Alexandra Hills - Thursday Afternoons 3:30-4:30pm. 7 consecutive weeks commencing 23/7/09 Eight Mile Plains CAG, 480 Underwood Road, Eight Mile Plains - Tuesday afternoons 3:30-4:30pm. 7 consecutive weeks commencing 28/07/09 In order to apply for these postions you must CURRENTLY hold a Blue card and have completed the Community Coach Certification. The QBA can organise for you to attend a training course to gain your Community Coach Certification if necessary. These are paid positions.
